Practice journals are posted! Click on the "practice journals" link at the top and print yours out. You need a page for every exercise or piece of music you want to work on. It seems like a lot at first, but once you get the hang of it it will be like second nature. ;) Keep your practice journals in your lesson notebook or section of your binder so everything will be kept neat and in the same place. I can't wait to see how you guys are practicing! We'll make any adjustments to the practice journals as necessary. If anything is confusing you, make sure to ask me in your next lesson, or you can always email or text me any questions you have!

Moving on....

Weekly Listening!

This is Paula Robison, an acclaimed international soloist and chamber musician. She is playing "Voliere," a movement from The Carnival of the Animals written by Camille Saint-Saens. (You may have heard music from this suite in the movie Fantasia 2000.) Each movement of the piece depicts a different animal or animals.

"Voliere" is the aviary (where all the birds live). You've probably seen one before, especially if you've been to the zoo:

Questions:

1. Do you like the piece? Why or why not?

2. Can you picture the birds in the aviary? What is it about the music or performance that creates that image?
